Public Storage is a Maryland real estate investment trust. It operates through following business segments: Self-storage Operations, Ancillary Operations, Investment in PS Business Parks and Investment in Shurgard Europe. The Self-storage Operations segment acquires, develops, owns, and operates self-storage facilities which offer storage spaces for lease on a month-to-month basis, for personal and business use. The Ancillary Operations segment deals with reinsure policies against losses to goods stored by customers in self-storage facilities, and sell merchandise, primarily locks and cardboard boxes, at self-storage facilities. The Investment in PS Business Parks segment owns, operates, acquires and develops commercial properties, primarily multi-tenant flex, office, and industrial parks. The Investment in Shurgard Europe segment owns self-storage facilities located in seven countries in Western Europe operated under the Shurgard brand name. The company was founded by Bradley Wayne Hughes, Sr. and Kenneth Q. Volk, Jr. in 1972 and is headquartered in Glendale, CA.
